First win for FC is an EIAC victory

LAWRENCEBURG – The Franklin County varsity boys' basketball team evened its record and picked up its first win of the 2017-18 season during a visit to the Lawrenceburg Tigers on Tuesday, November 28. The Wildcats rallied from a five-point, first-quarter deficit to win the contest by a 56-53 score.

Franklin County only scored in single digits during one quarter against the Tigers, and it came in the first period. The Wildcats managed just seven points to Lawrenceburg 12.

The FC offense came alive in the second quarter, scoring 18 points. The Tigers managed to deposit just 13 points in the scoring column. The two teams entered the break tied at 25-25.

The third quarter came to an end with Lawrenceburg leading by one. The Tigers outscored FC, 12-11, to take a 37-36 advantage into the final eight minutes.

The Wildcats picked the right time to have their best offensive quarter of the night during the fourth. Franklin County scored 20 points in the period and held on to a victory by allowing the Tigers to score just 16.

Three FC players scored in double digits during the contest. The Wildcats were led by Tyler Nichols with 19 points. The senior was 5-for-8 (63 percent) from the field and an impressive 8-for-9 (89 percent) from the free-throw line. Dylan Little and Hunter Mayfield added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

As a team, Franklin County struggled to hit shots from downtown. The team made just 1-of-14 (7 percent) from beyond the arc. Luckily, the Wildcats dominated from two-point range, hitting 20-of-26 (77 percent) from the field. Twenty-two points came in the paint for FC.

The Wildcats got a few of days off before hitting the road again on Saturday, December 2. The team traveled to Centerville for a battle against the Tri-Eastern Conference Bulldogs.
