Daniel B. Ferkinhoff
Daniel B. Ferkinhoff, age 78 of Batesville, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born October 4, 1932, in Oldenburg, he was the son of Searphine (Schulte) and Joseph Ferkinhoff. He married Rita Buschur on October 13, 1956, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg.
Dan worked for Margaret Mary Hospital for 35 years before retiring in January of 1998. Thirty-four of those years were as maintenance supervisor. He was a member of St. Louis Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #1461 where he served as Grand Knight from 1980 to 1982, the Indiana Engineers Society and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; daughters, Lisa Hedge of Indianapolis, Diana Schutte of Batesville, Laura Foster of Van Wert, Ohio, and Nancy Craig of Scottsburg; sons, David of Middletown, Rhode Island, and Thomas of Richmond; sisters, Mary Tekulve of Phoenix, Arizona, Joellen Dietz of Batesville and Donna Schutte of Oldenburg; a brother, Marvin of Brookville; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183. The family requests memorials to St. Louis School Tuition Angels or Gibault School.
Virginia Marie Laker
Virginia Marie Laker, age 93 of Batesville, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.
Born August 19, 1917, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Kathryn (Vonderheide) Harmeyer. She married Richard Laker on May 6, 1939, at St. Mary’s of the Rock Church in St. Mary, and he preceded her in death on August 1, 2004. The homemaker and house cleaner was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Joan Woodman of North Branfort, Connecticut, Marianne Freese of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Alice Robb of Goodrich, Michigan; and sons, Dennis Laker of Phoenxville, Pennsylvania, and Ron Laker of Tampa, Florida. She will also be missed by 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter; sisters, Loretta Wallpe, Rosella Hartman and Florene Hartman; a brother, Edward Harmeyer; and four other siblings who died as infants.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 5, from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Stephen Akange officiating. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery in Batesville. Claude Sturgell, age 51, of Metamora, died Saturday, April 30, 2011, at his residence. Born March 30, 1960, in Dunlow, West Virginia, he was the son of Miles Sturgell and Virginia Copley Sturgell.
On October 7, 1979, he was married to the former Kathy Pennington in the Smyrna Baptist Church in New Trenton. He was self-employed as a stone mason.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Sturgell; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Michael Waskewich of Atlanta, Georgia; two sons, Dustin Sturgell and Brandon Sturgell, both of Brookville; two sisters, Kathryn Allen and Christine (Rick) Callahan, both of Brookville; three brothers, Tony (Shelia) Sturgell of Metamora, Olus (Sharon) Sturgell of Laurel and Frank Sturgell of Cedar Grove; three grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great-niece.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Sturgell; an infant brother; two sisters-in-law, Diane Sturgell and Shelia Pennington; a niece and a great-niece.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the funeral home with Brother Robert Robinson of the First Apostolic Church in Lawrenceburg officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers.
Memorials may be directed to the family to assist with expenses.
Charlotte M. Losekamp
Charlotte M. Losekamp, age 85, of West Harrison, passed away Saturday April 30, 2011, at Mercy Western Hills Hospice.
Born May 15, 1925, in Harrison, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Effie (Whipple) Sauerland.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James B. Losekamp; her children and their spouses, Steve (Ruthann) Losekamp, Patty (Bob) Minges, Mike Losekamp and Lisa (Bill) Roell; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Edward (Sue) Sauerland; a sister, Martha Jane Campbell; and a sister-in-law, Marge Sauerland.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Sauerland; and a brother-in-law, Curtis Campbell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be today, May 4, at 11 a.m. at St John the Baptist Church, Harrison, Ohio, with Father Jeff Kemper officiating. Burial will be in St John the Baptist Church Cemetery.
