FC duo set for all-star game
ANDERSON – A pair of Franklin County varsity football players will be competing in the 17th Annual Indiana Hall of Fame East-West Classic this Friday, June 16.
FC graduates, John Hagerty and Stone Laughlin, are preparing to compete in the final high school showcase of their career before moving on to bigger and better things. Hagerty will take the field as quarterback, with Laughlin competing as a wide receiver.
If has been a few years since Franklin County has put two players in the all-star game. The pair of former Wildcats follow Cole McCreary, who played last year, and Josh Orschell, who played in 2015.
“Both (Hagerty and Laughlin) are great kids and tremendous football players,” FC head coach Kirk Kennedy said. “It's an honor to play in this game, and it's a feather in the cap for these two young men as they end their high school careers.”
This fall, Hagerty will be playing football for Lakeland University. Laughlin is set to be a White Tiger at Trine University.
According to Coach Kennedy, Hagerty and Laughlin have been practicing all week at Knightstown High School, in preparation for the event, which will be held at Anderson High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Graduating players from almost 50 local area schools compete in the annual football game. Proceeds from the event go to help fund the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in Richmond. This year, Coach Phil Renforth, from Cambridge City Lincoln, is the head coach.
