Wildcats win six duals at Richmond Invitational
The Franklin County varsity wrestling team won six of its eight duals at the Wayne County Invitational at Richmond High School last weekend. The Wildcats also won a dual matchup at Greensburg during the week.
The action began on Thursday, January 4, as Franklin County traveled west to Greensburg for a dual meet. The ‘Cats were on top of there game for the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference match. Franklin County cruised to a 53-16 victory.
The Wildcats had little time to enjoy their win or rest up for the next. On Friday, January 5, Franklin County entered the Wayne County Invitational. The event lasted two days, ending on Saturday, January 6.
The invite began with a loss to New Castle, 48-27, but the Wildcats rallied to win the next two duals over Winchester, 43-36, and Tri, 60-15.
Franklin County took a loss to Franklin Central, 48-31, but the team was able to win each of the next four duals to end the invite on a high note.
The Wildcats picked up wins over Centerville, 42-34, Monroe Central, 51-21, Lincoln, 56-12, and Union City, 54-21.
The end of the season is nearing for the Wildcats. The team will host South Dearborn for Senior Night at FCHS on Wednesday (tonight), January 10. Start time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, January 13, the team begins a unique and important stretch of home matches with the annual Franklin County Invitational. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. The Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference Championships and the 2018 Sectional 24 tournament will be held on successive weekends at FCHS.
