Two residents aircared

By John Estridge, Editor

A deer in the road caused serious injuries to two Brookville residents riding a motorcycle.

According to a Franklin County Sheriff’s Department press release, Thomas E. Nichols, 46 was operating a 2003 Suzuki on Indiana 101 south of its intersection with Fairfield Causeway Road at 8:35 p.m., Monday, April 2.

Nichols was going northbound, and his passenger was Anissa R. McConnel, 40.

Nichols attempted to avoid a deer by swerving. That caused him to lose control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle slid on its side before coming to rest.

Nichols was not wearing a helmet, and he was aircared to University Hospital in Cincinnati for treatment of head injuries.

McConnel was wearing a helmet. She was transported by helicopter to University Hospital for treatment of leg injuries.

FCSD Deputy Donald H. Forsee investigated the accident.

He was assisted at the scene by FCSD Sgt. Adam Henson and Deputy Ryan Lackey. Also at the scene were Brookville EMS-2, Responder 24 and the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
