Five tennis players win conference

Franklin County’s tennis team continued its amazing season with an Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference championships for five of the seven varsity players.
On Thursday, May 10, the Franklin County Girls Tennis team traveled to Greensburg to compete in the first round of the EIAC Conference tournament.
This tournament is based on individual performance, not on a team basis. The top two players in the conference from every position are seeded one and two, then the other six players are put randomly into the bracket.
After the brackets came out, Franklin County was seeded first in four of the five positions across the board with the only position not seeded first being No. 1 Doubles.
Following the matches on Thursday night, all Franklin County players remained in the tournament.
Saturday, May 12, Franklin County went back to Greensburg for the second day of the tournament to compete in the semi-finals and finals if they advanced.
After many hard-fought points, Franklin County advanced four positions to the final round. The No. 1 Doubles duo of Grace Moster and Allie Routh lost to Greensburg in straight sets 4-6, 3-6. The duo fought hard but weren't able to get over the hump in crucial points.
As for the other four positions, all of them battled hard in the championship round.
Batesville was able to make it to the championship in all singles matches as well and looked to get revenge on the team loss earlier in the season.
Lilli Stewart at No. 1 Singles played Batesville's Audrey Weigel and won 6-1, 6-4 to become the champion at her position and the EIAC Conference MVP.
Megan Routh at No. 2 Singles played Batesville's Rachel Rose and won in a third set super tiebreaker with a score of 10-4 to win her second consecutive EIAC title at that position.
Lauren Klei at No. 3 Singles played Batesville's Sophie Brown and won 6-3, 6-2 to claim her conference title.
To end the day, No. 2 Doubles won over Connersville's Burch and Pope 6-2, 6-1 to claim the fourth title for the Wildcats.
Coach Jeff Siebert had this to say on the match.” It was a great accomplishment to win four of five positions in the EIAC tournament. All the players were challenged and pushed throughout the tournament but in the end, four of five were named all-conference. Lilli Stewart was named the tournament's MVP by winning the #1 Singles position. She has been the best player in the conference all year long by winning every single match she has been in. Megan played some amazing points when she needed them. Lauren (Klei) had incredible determination to outlast her opponents. She is currently undefeated on the season along with Lilli (Stewart). Moster and Routh lost in the semifinals and though it was a disappointing loss for them, it was a close match. Mc-Creary and Brack have had a great season while only dropping one match. The team is looking to keep the momentum up as they head into sectionals this week.”
