Middle school student with local ties places third at World

Eli Bishop, a nephew of Sandi Baker, a Metamora resident, placed third in the National Archery in Schools World competition held at Louisville.

A South Dearborn Middle School student, Bishop shot a 297 out of a possible 300 for his placement.

World competition took place from Thursday, June 7 through Saturday, June 9.

His brother, Caleb, barely missed making it to the World Competition. A fourth grader, Caleb, placed fourth among fourth graders at the National Tournament held earlier this year in Louisville.

He missed qualifying for the World competition by five points.

Eli’s and Caleb’s parents are David and Tina Bishop of Moores Hill.

Locally Union County High School, coached by Franklin County High School graduate Mike Reister, finished in a tie for 35th out of 90 high schools.

The Patriots finished with a team score of 3,287.

Reister said the team score at the world competition was not the Patriots highest score of the season.

“Our effort was outstanding,” he said.
