Friday, Aug. 24 at noon is the deadline to file a petition for school board office, and as of Aug. 6, only two people have filed.
Terry Bryant, of Laurel, and Sharon Wesolowski of West Harrison are running for Franklin County Community School Board at large. The incumbents are Beth Foster, Sara Duffy and Kim Simonson.
The school board office will be elected at the General Election in the Franklin County Clerk’s office. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
School board members either run by district or at large.
With districts, there is a geographical boundary from which the candidate must reside and only people in that specific district can vote for those candidates.
In the at-large category, registered voters throughout the entire school district may vote for the at-large candidates.
The top three candidates who receive the most votes will be the at-large board members starting in 2019.
Update: Randall (Randy) Creek of West Harrison has also filed to run for Franklin County Community School Board at large. Ruth Rowlett, Franklin County Clerk’s Office first deputy also noted that when they sign up, it is not official until she has checked all of their signatures.
