Fire at Parkside Plaza damages gas pump

Those driving past Parkside Plaza on Saturday afternoon, May 11, may have been surprised by plumes of smoke coming from a vehicle parked at the gas pumps.

Both Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department and Brookville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene due to the closure of Causeway Road.

The fire damaged one of the gas pumps and caused partial damage to a structure next to the gas pumps. According to Brian Baxter, firefighter, the fire was started somewhere within the proximity of the vehicle. The vehicle was a full-size Ford Excursion, and it was a total loss.

The driver of the van said he parked the van; he and his son exited the vehicle and went inside the building and when they came back out, they noticed a fire underneath the van.

The investigation is ongoing.
