1962 SHS Class scholarship awarded to Matt Snyder

The Short High School Class of 1962 Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Matthew Snyder, who plans to attend Coastal Carolina University to study computer science. The recipient was announced at the Union County High School 2017 Senior Awards Night on Friday, June 2.

The $700 scholarship was privately funded by classmates and relatives to honor deceased members of the Class of 1962; Karen Ambrose McMillan, Phil Carter, Bruce Creek, Ron Jordan, Deanna LaMar Dunaway, Paul Major (class president), Martin McCord, J.D. O'Toole and Diana Scaggs Ramey. The relevance of the 1962 class motto, 'Ourselves, Our Best, Our Future', to the applicant's life 55 years later in 2017 was the basis of the scholarship essay questions. Participating in the announcement were Carol Carter Burch representing her brother, Phil Carter, Dennis Spaeth representing his brother-in-law, Bruce Creek, and 1962 class members Bruce Burch, Pat Cornett Click and Nancy LaMar Huntington.
