Dear Mr. Estridge,

I refer to the continuing discussion of the “township merger plan” in the Liberty Herald.

While there seems to be available glorious detail on the multitude of ways in which these mergers could be effectuated, one minor datum is conspicuously omitted. I have yet to hear anyone even attempt to explain WHY! What’s in it for Union County? What’s in it for any of the Townships, individually? What’s in it for me? And, while we’re at it, what’s in it for ANYONE?

What is ‘broken’ that these mergers are intended to fix?

Sorry, but I see no problem that they are intended to remediate. And, when that happens, experience has taught me to be cautious.

I am delighted to learn that Brian Bosma and Cindy Ziemke favor these changes. I’d be even more enthusiastic (perhaps!) if I knew why they want them! Having fewer townships in Union County cannot be one of the top-ranking problems in Indianapolis.

Sincerely,

Lew Pringle
