UCHS Class of 88 sets up scholarship in memory of Hannah Soper

By Marissa E. Lane, Staff Writer

The Class of 1988 is preparing for their 30 year reunion this summer—and setting up a scholarship fund with the Union County Foundation.

The scholarship will be set up to help graduating Union County High School Students and honor the late Hannah Soper, who passed away in a car accident in 2017. Hannah Soper's father, David Soper, is a member of the class of 1988.

“We, as a class, agreed to start a scholarship fund and do it this year in honor of Hannah Soper, who would have graduated this year,” said Heather Click, a representative of the Class of 1988 Reunion Committee. “The Soper family are so well thought of and have been a prime example of family working through tragedy by God's grace.”

The requirements for the Class of 1988 Memorial Scholarship reflect the memory of Hannah Soper: the application asks how the scholarship will help with meeting life goals, for students' community involvement and three character references. Finally, the application asks for several hundred words about how applicants have built and maintained friendships throughout their lives.

Applications for various scholarships are now open, and the Class of 1988 is seeking out donations to continue and grow the Memorial Scholarship in following years. Donations can be made on the Union County Foundation Website by using the “Donate” button at the bottom of the page and selecting “UCF Unrestricted Endowment - Community Impact Fund” from the dropdown menu and proceeding with their PayPal information or debit/credit card. Cash or check donations can be dropped off at the Union County Foundation office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or mailed to 404 Eaton Street, Liberty. Questions regarding donations can be directed to Danka Klein at 765-458-7664.
