Softball has rough week against good teams

Union County lost to Tri High, 16-6, Preble Shawnee, 6-3, last week and fell, 12-2, to Lincoln. The Lady Eagles improved to 8-0 in the Tri-Eastern Conference to win the Tri-Eastern Conference.

Lincoln batted a complete round plus four in gaining an 11-0 lead in the first inning.

After two scoreless innings, UC put four runners on base and scored two runs in the third inning to make Lincoln work for a five-inning win.

The Lady Eagles didn’t back down. They scored a run in the top of the fifth inning and held UC scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Hannah Hall went the distance for Lincoln giving up three hits and two runs while striking out nine and walking one.

Roya Walton and Tori Russell shared UC pitching duties. Walton gave up five hits, walked four and struck out one. Russell gave up three hits, walked one and struck out three.

Union County is the victim of several injuries this season.

Senior pitcher Fayth Hill has been out since mid-April with a stress fracture in her right wrist.

Shortstop Tara Williams injured her thumb on her left hand last week and did not play in the Lincoln game.
