Future is bright for Patriots golf

Cathedral (309), Hamilton Southeastern (312) and Noblesville (314) advanced out of last week’s IHSAA golf regional at Muncie Central to play at the two-day IHSAA boys golf state finals at Prairie View Golf Club at Carmel.

The top three teams and top five individuals not on an advancing team at regionals earn the right to play at the state finals.

“The boys did okay,” UC coach Tony Gulley said. “We shot about our average, that’s okay.”

The Patriots’ 341 team score was led by sophomore Cody Peters’ 80, followed by freshmen Luke Yamashiro’s 84 and Cameron Woods at 87. Tyler Osborne came in at 90 and Zeb Hall had107.

Without a senior on the team, next season will be even brighter than this year’s 11-1 season and the first team to advance to regional in Coach Gulley’s 21-year coaching career.

Cathedral’s Austin Vukovits was a medalist at 72.
