Five X-country runners advance
Union County will be well represented at the IHSAA Cross Country Regionals at Rushville on Saturday, Oct. 13.
“Good race,” UC coach Alan Bell said. “Girls ran well and to get Paddock out, that was great.”
Three Lady Patriots, Vanessa West, Priscilla Kelly, Emma Sharp, and two Patriots, Luke Bantz and Luke Paddock, advanced to regional as individuals.
The top five teams at sectional and the top 10 individual runners not on an advancing team move on to regional competition.
Rushville ran a solid first in both the girls (37 pts.) and boys (41 pts.) team standings.
Franklin County, Centerville, Connersville and Hagerstown girls will join the Lady Lions at regional.
The Lady Patriots placed sixth in team standings and the Patriots finished eighth.
Vanessa West and Priscilla Kelly finished 10th and 11th overall to lead the Lady Pats. Emma Sharpe’s 25:44 time was in the top 10 times of girls not on an advancing team and will compete at the regional.
While Rushville won both team titles, Franklin County sophomore Lauren Kelly and Hagerstown’s Elijah Halcolb were individual race winners.
Kelly finished a full minute in front of second-place finisher, Shannon Daugherty of Rushville.
Junior Luke Bantz continues to lead the Patriots who finished eighth as a team. Individually, Bantz ran with the best to finish fifth overall in 19:09.
Luke Paddock ran a 21:10 to make the top 10 male finishers not on an advancing team.
“We’ll get back to work this week and come back next to try to do even better,” Bell said.
The IHSAA Cross Country Regional is at Rushville this Saturday, Oct. 13. The girls race begins at 10:30 a.m. The boys race is at 11:15 a.m., and Union County will compete in both races.
