Elisabeth Dodd, Staff Writer

The American Legion Post 122 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1472 put together a Veterans Day Program open to all at the Union County High School gymnasium Monday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m.

This is a respectful event to honor those who have served, and as such requires a silent entrance to appreciate the military color guard, UCHS Band, and Tonya Dare's rendition of the national anthem.

Several decorated speakers will address the crowd including Tech Sergeant Robert Napier who has also served as the Post Commander of the American Legion. The keynote speaker is Jeff Mathews who is the current Trustee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and is a retired Master Chief Petty Officer Submarines.

After the ceremony, attendees can help themselves to a free lunch at the American Legion Post 122 building. This event commemorates the sacrifices of those who have served, and invites others to reflect on this altruism.
