After shutting out North Decatur, 9-0, the Union County Lady Patriots came back two days later with their first test in the Tri-Eastern Conference. UC defeated Hagerstown 11-1, in five innings.
Coach Scott Gray was nothing but happy to go up 1-0 in the TEC.
“Thirteen hits in four-and-a- half innings, Gray began. “We hit the ball tonight like we’re supposed to every game.”
UC scored twice in the first inning added five in the bottom of the second inning including Tori Russell’s inside the park, bases loaded home run.
Leading, 8-0, the Lady Patriots batted one shy of a full round with five hits and three runs to lift UC to an 11-0 lead.
Hagerstown sophomore Emma Hicks hit a double to put the Lady Tigers on the scoreboard.
Winning pitcher Fayth Hill went four innings before yielding to classmate Rainey Shepler in the final inning.
“We wanted to give her an opportunity to throw before Saturday,” Gray said. “She did well her first time back.”
Hill struck out eight, walked two and gave up two hits. Shepler also had a strikeout.
Kristin Klein and Faith Richardson were both 3-for-3 at the plate, and Sophia Knock was 2-for-3.
