Bicentennial book planned for Union County
By John Estridge, Editor
The Liberty Public Library and the Liberty Herald are joining forces to publish “Preserving our Heritage.”
It is a hardback book that will be published in conjunction with the county’s Bicentennial.
Committee members have been meeting for some time working on the book.
Ideas at this time include: family histories, histories of clubs and organizations, business histories, school histories, histories of people who have made an impact on the county, state, nation and world, and a bird’s-eye view of the various towns in Union County and businesses through the history shown in their locations within that bird’s-eye view.
Meetings have been held in the Liberty Public Library, and Library Director Karen Kahl has kept committee members well fed.
Liberty Herald representatives Vanessa Mitchell and Melissa Spillers presented the book idea to the popular Reminisce program at the library, and it was enthusiastically received by the many people attending the program.
Mitchell will be putting the book together.
Family histories are $30 for the first 750 words. Additional blocks of 750 words can be purchased for $20 each. Submitted photos with the histories are $5 each.
With clubs and other categories, the first 250 words are free. Additional 750-word blocks may be purchased for $20. Photos submitted with histories have a $5 per photo charge.
The histories and photos of people who have made an impact will be free.
