By Vivian Risch, Contributor

The Union County Girls and Boys Cross Country teams were easy winners at last week’s three-way meet at Tri High School.

Union County was the only school with both a boys and girls team and therefore were team winners of the 5K race.

After the start, Luke Bantz took the lead and ran the course solo in 19:55.

Tri’s Trey Williams placed second with UC’s Luke Paddock third, and freshmen Bradley Meadows coming in fifth and Jack Hodgkin seventh.

Seton’s single female runner, Erica Barker, did likewise in the girls race winning in 23:13.

Lady Patriot sophomore Patricia Kelley led Union County with a second-place finish in 25:22.

Juniors Vanessa West and Genny Antrim finished third and fourth and Emma Sharp fifth and Kalin Baumbauer sixth.

Last Saturday’s Rushville Cross Country Invitational was cancelled due to weather conditions.

Union County cross country teams will compete at the 12-team Union City Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7. Patriot cross country returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 11 to host Monroe Central and Winchester.
