For 20 years, Wendel Farms has been offering the Whitewater Valley a unique and fun fall farm experience for kids of all ages to enjoy.

The days are getting shorter and the nights getting cooler, which means autumn is approaching and it's time to head out to Wendel Farms on State Line Road to partake in a variety of fall activities.

Wendel Farms offers many of the fall-time staples enjoyed by families, such as a corn maze, straw maze, petting farm and baby animals, pumpkin patch, mums and fall decorations and a combine recycled into a playground.

After nearly three decades of farming, Phil and Susann Wendel decided to open up their farm to visitors seeking a fun farm experience in 2000. While their commercial farming business continues, transforming their operation into a tourist destination has brought an entirely new element to the farm.

One of the Wendels' highlights is the corn maze. The maze is designed in the summer and agricultural GPS experts C-Tech Solutions map out the design into the corn field while Susann follows along on a mower to clear the path. This year's maze features a rose motif. A smaller straw bale maze is available for younger visitors.

The pumpkin patch is a big draw, with a hay wagon transporting visitors to the pumpkin patch where they can choose the perfect canvas for their jack-o-lantern, straight from the field. Less adventurous visitors will find the Country Store stocked with a variety of pumpkins, as well as ornamental gourds, corn, straw bales and crafts.

Animals are big part of farm life, and Wendel Farms has plenty for visitors to check out - ranging from common pigs, calves and chickens to something a little more unusual with alpacas, guineas and peacocks. Children can get up close and see a variety of fun and fuzzy animals.

Wendel Farms is located at 8134 N. State Line Road, Brookville, straddling the state line between Franklin County and Butler County, Ohio. It is open Fridays from noon to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. General admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and over or children 12 and under, while children 2 and under get in free.
