After four years of planning, fundraising and plenty of hard labor, Whitewater Canal Trail is ready to open just more than two miles of the new Feeder Dam Trail on Sunday, October 13.

The party starts at 3 p.m. at the Old Opry Barn in Metamora and will feature wood-fired pizza, cold beverages and a cash bar. Nearby, at the new trailhead, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. and tours of the new trail at 3:30 p.m. and immediately after the ribbon cutting. Tickets for the Grand Opening are $15 or two for $25, children 12 and under get in for $5.

Proceeds from the event will go to fund the next phase of trail construction, which will extend the new trail. Don Vonder Muelen spearheaded the Feeder Dam Trail and, due to the scope of the project, broke it down into two parts. Phase 1 takes pedestrians from Metamora along the freshly dredged canal to Lock No. 26. Phase 2 will take up from the lock and continue to the Laurel Feeder Dam.

Advance tickets are available at Franklin County Community Foundation, Third Place Tavern, Franklin County Visitor’s Center, Brookville Butcher, Grannies Cookie Jar Shop and Pavey’s Grocery.
