The Christmas season received a boost last Sunday from Christmas in Our Hometown that filled downtown Liberty with Christmas-spirited entertainment, music and fun during the afternoon and evening hours.

Local participating businesses found business was good and sometimes overwhelmed with visitors and shoppers.

The variety of planned activities drew crowds from the early afternoon Candy Cane Race to the Lighted Christmas Parade and early evening lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Courthouse Square.

Christmas in Our Hometown participation reached beyond downtown Liberty with many businesses off the beaten path joining in and welcoming visitors during the celebration hours.

With the weatherman delivering Christmas-like weather, Christmas in Our Hometown fulfilled everyone’s expectations.

“Isn’t this nice? “The weather is so nice for this year,” were the most heard comments coming from visitors to the afternoon events.

While Christmas in Our Hometown received high marks, Christmas is still two weeks away and Liberty has more to offer.

Local business establishments all over town have joined in the Decorating Contest which offers $500 to the winner. The contest is sponsored by Union County Prosecutor AJ Bryson and the Union County Development Corporation.

Businesses have dressed up the town by decorating their own establishments inside and out for the Christmas Season. Judging is in progress now and continues until Dec. 20.

Who are the judges? You are! Everyone may vote for their favorite decorated business. Votes are 25-cents each and each participating business has a voting jar to receive your vote.
