The Franklin County High School Athletic Department would like to honor the seniors who are missing their spring season.

The spring of 2020 was set up to be a banner year on the track, fields, courses and courts, according to AD Denny Dorrel.

“Even though the seniors did not get to participate this spring, their commitment and sacrifice to Franklin County Athletics is greatly appreciated,” he commented.

This week's entries come from the girls tennis and track teams, as well as boys golf and baseball.

What are your plans after high school?

I plan to attend college and major in business. I love my community, so who knows, maybe I'll come back and support our future tennis players!

What is your favorite moment from your sport?

My favorite tennis memory is winning sectionals. I wish I could explain the feeling of all our hard work coming together and the happiness that came over us. It is a moment I'll never forget.

What are you going to miss the most from your season being canceled?

I will miss feeling the bond that the tennis team had the most. We were by far the closest team I have ever had. I am also going to miss the tennis sleepovers and fun practices. The game will always be there, but not the people. I am so thankful for being able to be a part of FCHS tennis and everything it had to offer.

Is there anyone you want to thank?

I would like to thank all my coaches for helping me get to where I am today. I would have never had the motivation that I do now if it wasn't for them. Coach Siebert has helped me dramatically even though he was only my coach for one year. He has helped me become a better player and helped us become a better team all around. Coach John Ingermann has been a great role model for me and has always made wins (and losses) better, just knowing he is there supporting us. I am so thankful for my tennis team and the memories we have made throughout the years.

A message from FCHS Tennis Coach Jeff Siebert: “Alexis broke into the lineup early in the season last year. She was a great competitor on the court. Alexis displayed aggressiveness at the net and possessed good instincts for the game. Constantly improving, she finished her varsity career with a 12-6 record.”

My favorite moment from golf is progressing as an athlete and making it on varsity as a freshman.

What are you going to miss the most from your season being canceled?

I am going to miss hanging out with all my friends on the links. I'm going to miss all the dumb things we would do to mess up each other in practice.

Is there anyone you want to thank?

I want to thank Mr. Riley, Mrs. Marisa Mears and Mr. Dylan Huber for teaching me how to play golf and continuing to help me for the last four years. I want to thank my teammates for making these last four years full of memories. Finally, I want to thank FCHS for making high school such a great experience that I will never forget.

A message from Assistant Principal and former FCHS Golf Coach Dustin Riley: "Brandon is a true teammate. He always helps everyone around him and shows them the support they deserve. He is always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. I believe these attributes are going to make him a successful person for the rest of his life. What is your favorite moment from your sport?

My favorite moment from the track, would have to be walking out to the field, and getting to have fun and throw with all my friends. Throughout the years, we have all worked hard as a team, and have encouraged each other to get better, and set PRs.

What are you going to miss the most from your season being canceled?

There's a lot I will miss from this last season being canceled. This would have been my 8th year in track. Throughout the years, I grew to love the sport and all my teammates. Track was that one thing for me that I always looked forward to, and always genuinely enjoyed being a part of. During my time, I gained many lifelong friends and memories. I wanted this season to end with a bang. I wanted to get that last throw, I wanted to work hard to set my final PRs that I could remember for the rest of my life, and I wanted those last moments with my friends before we all went off to college. I always thought I would have more time that I could always get better, that senior year was so far away. I never imagined it would be gone so quickly. I am so thankful for the little season that I did have, I just wish I would have gotten that chance to show myself and to say one last goodbye.

Is there anyone you want to thank?

Throughout the years, I have had many different coaches and teammates, and I just want to say thank you to all of them that made me love the sport. I never knew how much track could mean to me. It wasn't just a spring sport for me. It was something I looked forward to throughout the year, and that positively impacted my life. I gained memories through track that I will always carry with me and friends that I can always depend on. I want to thank my parents for being there through all the years: from picking me up from practices, to taking the long haul to the away meets, and supporting me throughout everything. Track will forever have a place in my heart, and I want to thank everyone who made that possible.

A message from FCHS Track Coach Joe Davidson: "Emmy has gotten the most out of her high school career. She has always been so involved in everything and I think she has been a great role model!"

I would like to thank all my teachers, coaches, and teammates for showing me the way and teaching me many things I can use in life and pass on to others.

A message from FCHS Baseball Coach Derek Stang: “Drew showed what it meant to put the team before himself. He was always willing to do what was best for the team, including playing multiple positions. The way Drew was able to adjust and adapt as he got older is a great quality to have in a person.”
