The Lady Patriots held off the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters, 43-34, on the last day of school before the Thanksgiving Break.

“It was closer than I would have liked,” UC Coach Scott Gray said. “We were lethargic. Not sure what it was, but we can’t play that way very often and win.”

The Lady Patriots led at all stops, but the Lady Twisters’ persistence kept the score close.

UC enlarged a two-point first quarter lead (9-7) to a seven-point separation at halftime (19-12). Oldenburg used the intermission to regroup and come back with their best scoring effort (12 pts.) to close to within three, (27-24) at the three-quarter break.

UC didn’t fully convince the Lady Twisters until the final quarter.

Senior guard Taylor Pinkerton opened with back-to-back 3’s to set the pace to UC’s 16-point fourth quarter performance. The Lady Pats’ 16-10 run in thefinal eight minutes sent Oldenburg home with a 43-34 loss.

“Thank goodness Taylor Pinkerton came out ready to play tonight,” Gray said. “She hit shots early and got herself going, great effort.”
Pinkerton finished with an 18-point total spread over four quarters, three rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore Sophia Knock and Junior Madison Gray followed up in double digits with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Oldenburg was led by sophomore Katie Johnson and senior Harlee Massavge with nine points each.

UC reserves win
The Jr. Lady Patriots led through the first half,  10-4, 16-11, before taking a back seat to the Jr. Lady Twisters in the third quarter.

Not to be out-done, the Jr. Lady Pats came right back to limit OA to one field goal and one free throw while scoring two buckets and 9-of-14 free throws. Final score - UC 37, OA 29.
