The Lady Patriots returned to form last week at Franklin County, handing the Lady Wildcats a 42-24 setback.

“We were ready to get back on the floor after Northeastern,” UC coach Scott Gray said. “The kids played well. Great effort.”

The Lady Patriots rolled out to a 9-1 lead that turned into an 11-1 lead at the end of the first quarter on the strength of UC’s play in the lane.

Madison Gray and Sophia Knock were Union County’s only scorers in the first eight minutes. Zoe Murphy joined the scoring duo in the second quarter.
“We played well defensively,” coach Gray said. “Only three girls scored for us. FC caused some of that, the way they interrupted our flow. We need more scoring than that.”

The Lady Pats held FC to five points in the second quarter to take a 23-8 halftime lead.

The third quarter was a stand-off with both teams adding seven points to their side of the scoreboard. Then Union County’s 12-9 run in the final eight minutes capped the score at 42-24.

Uc’s scoring trio shared the winning score. Gray finished with 23 points, Knock had 14 and Murphy five. Knock and Gray lead the rebound chart with 10 and nine respectively. FC was led by Kairee Hodapp’s six rebounds. Macy Crain had five and Jenna Bruns four.

The Jr. Varsity Lady Wildcats squeezed out  a 34-33 win over the Union County reserves.
