In high school tennis post-season action, the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles team moves on as long as they remain undefeated.

After Franklin County was eliminated as a team at the Connersville Sectional, a 3-2 loss to eventual sectional and regional team champions, Connersville, No. 1 singles player sophomore Jack Stirn and No. 1 doubles team of senior Kurt Oetzel and junior Lonnie Schwartz advanced to the Richmond regional.
Stirn defeated Blue River Valley’s Conner Brookbank in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, before bowing out to his next opponent, 3-6, 6-7 (4-7).

Oetzel and Schwartz also won their first-round match before losing in the second round.

According to FC tennis coach Derrike Kolb, both the No. 1 doubles team’s victory in the opening round and their loss against their next opponents were close, three-set affairs.
