Frederick T. Thoman

December 3, 2024 at 3:44 p.m.

Frederick “Fred” T. Thoman, 68, of Rushville passed away on November 27, 2024, at his home. He was born on February 29, 1956, in Rushville to the late Frederick and Agnes (Schroeder) Thoman. Fred liked to tell everyone he was only 17 since he was a leap year baby.

Fred graduated from Rushville High School in 1974. He was a member of the Conservation Club of Rush County, Knights of Columbus, and a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

In his later years, he enjoyed working at Fields Outdoor Adventures where he could often be found giving his colleagues a hard time and making the customers laugh. Fred didn’t know a stranger and if you were given the opportunity to go anywhere with him you either heard; “Hey Fred!,” or “You related to this guy? I’m sorry!” He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, spending time with his family and talking about firearms.

Fred is survived by his children Ryan (Lyndsey) of Columbus, Ind., Janann (Ryan) Schutte of Indianapolis. He will also be missed by his grandchildren; Justice Thoman, Jenna (Tyler) Snyder, Jalen Thoman, Braylon Thoman, Grant Schutte, Reggie Thoman, and Cole Schutte, along with his significant other Cindy Griffith and her family.

Fred loved his siblings dearly and while gathering for Thanksgiving they shared fond memories of “Freddie.”  He will be missed deeply by Gail, Doris, Bob, Ellen, John, Janet, Joannie, Pattie, Rita, Ed and Steve, along with several brothers-in-law and sisters -in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Carolyn, brother William, brother-in-law, Joe Saba and nephew Jimmy Werle.

Fred’s family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone at Fields Outdoor Adventures for pouring into and filling up Fred’s cup of humor. You welcomed him with open arms and we know you will miss his presence. We also want to thank Major Health Partners who took excellent care of him while on his journey. He enjoyed making you smile.

All were invited for a recitation of the rosary Monday, December 2, 2024, with visitation at Todd Funeral Centre in Rushville. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30am Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Dustin Boehm, Celebrant.  Burial immediately followed at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you offer memorial contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church 512 N. Perkins St. Rushville, IN 46173.
