Melodye Kay Dodson was born in Flint, Michigan to Audrey (nee Perry) and Edmond Dodson on August 25, 1959. She was raised in Michigan and later relocated to Paducah, Kentucky and then Liberty. She was a member of Brownsville United Methodist Church where she shared her passion for cooking through a food ministry, often cooking for the church and church families, as well as helping with Vacation Bible School and serving as a trustee. She was a 1977 graduate of Farmington High School and after attending Western Michigan University she enrolled at Schoolcraft College in Detroit to become a Registered Nurse. Mel worked in a variety of roles as a nurse from nursing homes, hospital floors, surgery and her favorite, the ER. She was well loved as a nurse sharing her compassion and professionalism with all that she served. She always treated everyone, no matter their background or position, with the utmost care. Many also knew Mel as a gifted musician who loved Christian music and going to concerts. She could play any instrument but found the most joy playing the drums. She had a heart for animals, especially her two little Yorkie dogs, Gracie and Megan.
