There are Easter Egg Hunts and then there is the 2021 College Corner Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the College Corner Community Club.

The annual Easter egg hunt is one of many community events sponsored by the 83-year-old community club and was a bit different from any other.
Following a year of Covid -19, first-year organizer Katie Welty and her crew decided to hold not one, but two hunts on the same day to stay within COVID 19 restrictions.

Two hunts were planned for children up to 10 years of age. Furthermore, the first hunt at 11 a.m. welcomed families with last names A-M to Stateline Ball Park. Families with last names N-Z were asked to participate in the second hunt at 1 p.m.

Masks were required for everyone age five and older, as was social distancing during the event.

The Grove was sectioned off by red and yellow caution tape - one section for each of the five age groups and prizes awarded in all age groups at both hunts.

Two separate egg hunts meant more eggs, more prizes more helpers, more fun and not five, but 10 big Easter baskets to those who found a gold egg!

“We always get good support from everyone - businesses, groups, individuals, everything,” Welty said. “Our community and the entire area is always supportive.”

It just so happens that a local resident, Amelia Oberschlake, is a consultant with Usborne Books; she, donated 30 children’s books to be used as prizes, for the egg hunt.

Upon arrival, children were a little hesitant, clutching their parents’ hands, but as more and more gathered, the shyness wore off and excitement took over.
When the signal to begin was given, it was off to the races looking for colorful eggs and snack size treats. At the end of each hunt winners were singled out and rewarded for their success in finding a golden egg.

The morning winners were: Kloe Horn (0-2 yrs.), Coby Kirkpatrick (3-4 yrs.), Langston King (5-6 yrs.), Ellianna Bowers (7-8 yrs.), Hazel Henke (9-10 yrs.).
Winners in the afternoon were: Xander Oberschlake (0-2 yrs.), Lane Siebert (3-4 yrs.), Carter Houseman (5-6 yrs.), Tanner Walters (7-8 yrs.), Landon Gross (9-10 yrs.).
