While Whitetail Acres Nursery and Landscaping is no stranger to reindeer games, this year they will offer a new opportunity for you and your family to make holiday memories.

This year, Whitetail Acres is expanding their reindeer adventure program into a Reindeer Encounter at their 8001 Old Blue Creek Road location. The Reindeer Encounter will be operating from November through February, Friday-Sunday.

The Reindeer Encounter includes interacting, petting and feeding the reindeer. Visitors will also learn about the reindeer such as what they eat, where they are native to and how they fly, from one of the experienced handlers at Whitetail Acres.

While Whitetail Acres has had reindeer for many years and has hosted adventures before, owners Alice and Kevin Priessman are working to expand their event. The Priessmans, originally from Cincinnati, had very different jobs before embarking into the Christmas tree, landscaping and reindeer business. Alice was a hairdresser and Kevin managed softball complexes.

“So naturally we start a Christmas tree farm,” said Priesmann.

They owned some property in Franklin County and were looking into options on what to do with it. They decided to plant around 3,000 Scotch Pine trees and when they came back a few weeks later, were surprised to find all of them, aside from 20-30, had been eaten by deer. This is how the name Whitetail Acres was born. What started as a Christmas tree farm also became landscape design, which led to them purchasing the garden center on Old Blue Creek Road in 2008.

The Priessmans had reindeer for many years and travel all around with them to put on festive displays. With the Reindeer Encounter event this year, they are hoping to draw in a lot of local traffic and visitors from the tri-state area.

Alice said they plan to have everything lit up with Christmas lights, and they will be selling live trees, balled and burlapped, as well as wreaths. Customers are also encouraged to visit the gift shop.

Those hoping to participate in the Reindeer Encounter are encouraged to book online at www.mywhitetail.com. It is $20 per person to participate in the Reindeer Encounter and those ages two and under are free. Anyone under 18 must also be accompanied by an adult.

Each booking will be around half an hour. Those participating in the encounter will enjoy up close-and-person interactions with the reindeer, photos that visitors can take with their own cameras, as well as a bonfire. A handler will be in the enclosure with visitors at all times.

Those visiting can also make their own wreath and enjoy refreshments at this perfect opportunity for a holiday themed date night or a fun night out with the family. There is sure to be something for everyone.
