While county fair season is seven months away, those interested in joining Franklin County 4-H this year are asked to enroll by this Saturday, Jan. 15.

4-H is the largest youth development program in the nation and welcomes members from the grades of kindergarten to high school senior.

While 4-H is widely known for its livestock projects, the program offers a vast array of projects ranging from photography, arts and crafts and others that take place throughout the year.

Franklin County Purdue Extension office manager Brandon Cowen served in 4-H for 12 years and recalls the friendships made along the way and the work that took place leading up to fair.

"It was such a great time. Growing up with friends and families and just that week of being at the fair from sunrise to sunset, being tired as all get out, but it was the best week of your life," Cowen said.

Cowen encourages citizens to enroll as soon as possible as certain clubs and projects are beginning in the near future. Learn on how to get involved by contacting Franklin County's Extension office at (765) 647-3511.
