Union County’s volleyball team is the cream of the crop in 2020, so says the Tri-Eastern Conference coaches.

The Lady Patriots finished the season, with a sectional title, a 7-1 TEC record and 20-13 overall.

Four Lady Patriots headed up the 2020 Volleyball Tri-Eastern All-Conference team, including all-around player Grace Patrick, who is the 2020 TEC Volleyball Player of the Year.

“Grace Patrick is a 4-year starter and played three different positions in four years. She is an outside hitter, a six rotation player, captain and leader,” UC coach Joe Pavey said. “She is my Swiss Army Knife.”

Patrick finished the season with 280 kills, 69 aces, 287 digs and 10 assists.

Three additional Lady Pats also earned TEC All-Conference honors and UC was the only team with four All-Conference players. Hagerstown, Knightstown and Northeastern were the second, third and fourth place teams, all with 6-2 TEC records.

In addition to the Player of the Year (Grace Patrick), teammates Emma Townsend, Brooke Fields and Eleyse Peters made All-Conference while Shelby Hill was Union County’s Honorable Mention selection.

“Emma Townsend has been a 4-year starter, an outside hitter and six rotation player, captain, leader and has a passion for the game,” Pavey said.

“She and Grace Patrick led the team in many ways. Never just saying how to play, always showing how to play. These seniors wanted to put us back on top, put their senior year on some banners and were relentless in their work effort to see it through. Union County High School volleyball will miss them.”

•Townsend finished the year with 210 kills, 39 aces, 4 blocks, 250 digs and 13 assists.

“Brooke Fields, our libero, set a season record in digs (519). She anchored our defense,” Pavey said. “The best libero in conference, period.”

•Fields led the team in digs (519), made 6 kills, served 22 aces, and made 32 assists.

“Eleyse Peters was the terminal hitter in the conference. She progressed offensively this season and has a bright future,” Pavey said.

•Peters led Union County in kills (306) and blocked shots (68). She served 19 aces, had 26 digs, and 32 assists.

“Shelby Hill at setter is a great decision maker, has great hands and is the best server in conference,” Pavey said.

•Hill finished the year with 432 assists, 71 aces, 3 kills, a pair of blocks and 159 digs.
