The Eastern Hancock Royals defeated the Union County Patriots, 84-56, in game five of the IHSAA Boys Basketball Sectional at Shenandoah High School last week and the host school turned back the Northeastern Knights, 68-39, in the second game.

Eastern Hancock and Shenandoah met in the Saturday night championship game with Shenandoah capturing the sectional title with a 61-38 victory.
Shenandoah will play Covenant Christian at the Greenfield Regional on Saturday, March 13. Parke Heritage and Triton Central play in the second game.

Pats fall in Game 5

Eastern Hancock advanced to game 5 by defeating Hagerstown, 59-41, and came out strong against Union County in the semifinal round.
The Royals’ fast-paced, 3-point shooting game plan put the Patriots behind, 7-0, in the first two minutes. By halftime, EH doubled the score on the Pats, 44-22, and didn’t let up.

Five Royals scored in double figures - four starters and one off the bench. And six Royals scored from behind the 3-point arc and beyond. The Royals made 14 three-point field goals spread over the first three quarters, 19 two-pointers and were 4-of-4 at the free throw line.

The Patriots did not keep pace until the final eight minutes when both coaches emptied their benches. Union County outscored Eastern Hancock, 21-14, in the fourth.

Union County’s Keaghan Coyle was the game’s leading scorer with 22 points and Alex VanWinkle added 12 points and four rebounds.

UC finished at 10-14. VanWinkle, Luke Paddock and Jaden Bias played their final games for the Pats.
