LAWRENCEBURG - A half dozen goals by the Batesville Bulldogs before halftime buried the Franklin County Wildcats in sectional semifinal action from Oct. 7. The final was 7-0.

Despite the best effort of FC keeper Levi Sanders and the Wildcats' use of an offside trap, the Bulldogs scored early and often to make the second half of play academic.

The combo of JJ Kuisel to Ian Powers hooked up at 35:54 as the former sent a cross into the box for Powers to bury. A flurry of action followed on both ends over the next 10 minutes, with the score staying 1-0. This included the Wildcats putting slight pressure on Batesville keeper Ethan Brewer.

Powers intercepted an FC free kick at 22:16 and fed Kuisel for the Bulldogs' second score. Seconds later, at 21:58, Willy Sherwood sent a through ball to the feet of Kuisel; Sanders got a foot on the initial shot, but Powers was there for the rebound and 3-0 lead. Ian Carpenter fed Sherwood around midfield just a minute later (20:36), with Sherwood dribbling in and, despite a stumble, making it 4-0. Powers earned a first-half hat trick by hitting the far post at 16:48 and getting the favorable bounce. After a pair of Sanders saves, Kuisel produced a sixth goal.

Kent Meyers provided the last score at 29:47 of the second half, connecting from about 20 yards for the Bulldogs, who went on to lose a 2-1 heartbreaker to sectional host Lawrenceburg in Saturday night's championship.

FC ended the year at 2-10 and says goodbye to Wade Estes, Mason Flannery and Cole Rapp, the latter putting in three goals to help the Wildcats to an improbable comeback against Greensburg in the sectional opener.
