It was Senior Night at Union City last Friday night and Union City seniors led the Indians to a 59-54 Tri-Eastern Conference victory over visiting Union County.

Seniors Bryton Stewart and Zerrin Cantu along with sophomore Rylan Cowper finished with 18, 15 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the Indian win.
Union County led through the first half, 19-17 and 32-26 at halftime.

The Indians shut the Pats down to the tune of 14-8 to tie the score at 40-all at the three-quarter mark.

Four minutes into the final quarter, the score was  knotted at 50-50. Five lead changes later, the Indians went up by one, 55-54, and went on to win by five amid confusion on a foul call.

“We gave ourselves a chance there at the end, but a foul was called on the wrong person and sent  the wrong person to the free throw line,” UC coach Alex McCool said. “Without explanation.”

Following the free throws, an official did come to the scorers’ table to correct who actually committed the foul.

Too little, too late. The Indians’ four-of-four free throws in the final 30 seconds ensured the Union City win.

Union County junior guard Alex VanWinkle finished with 22 points and 8 rebounds and senior guard Hayden Alldredge had 19 points and 5 rebounds.
