Franklin County Lady Wildcats opened up the season in style Friday night, Nov. 8 by defeating visiting Rising Sun 70-32.

It was a team win as not one Lady Wildcat was in double figures.

Junior Kloe Bolos and senior Laura Hildebrand led the Wildcats with nine points each. Freshman Macy Crain contributed eight points while freshman Kiersten Schell and senior Ashlan Hill each scored seven points. Two more Wildcats scored six points each: sophomore Jenna Bruns and freshman Kassidy Schell.

FC led from the outset and just elongated the lead as the game went on. It was 12-4 after the first eight minutes and then the Wildcats scored 41 points in the next two quarters, second and third: 22 in the second and 19 in the third. At the same time, the defense held the Lady Shiners to nine points in the same time span. Rising Sun managed but two points in the third quarter.

By that time it was 53-13.

FC coach Joe Adams emptied the bench in the final quarter, allowing the Shiners to take the fourth quarter 19-17. However, the Schell twins, Kiersten and Kassidy, scored all of their points, seven and six, respectively, in the final quarter.
FC also won the war on the boards, 51-42, with 24 boards coming off the offensive glass. FC scored a dozen points off putbacks.

Sophomore Alex Gillman led the Wildcats with a dozen rebounds. Hildebrand also was in double figures with 10. Along with Bolos' nine points, she also led the team with six steals. Gillman had three. FC had but seven turnovers to the 31 for the Shiners.

Shooting seemed to be a problem for the Wildcats in the scrimmage, but they shot almost 39 percent from two-point range while holding the Shiners to 20 percent. Crain was four-for-four from that distance.

FC swept the night by also taking the junior varsity contest, 58-23. The Schell twins also had high-scoring honors in the JV contest. Kassidy Schell had a game-high 18 points while Kiersten Schell contributed 15. Also in double figures was freshman Josie Rolfes with 10. Sophomore Saige Mergenthal led the team in rebounds with six.

FC entertained Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference foe East Central (1-1) Tuesday night but results were unavailable as of press time.

The Wildcats travel to Wayne County on the weekend for the next action. They are at 1-0 Northeastern Friday night and 0-1 Centerville Saturday night.
