Nick Orr of Union County was one of the lone golfers from the surrounding area to compete at last Thursday's boys regional hosted by Muncie Central at Yorktown's The Players Club.

Orr finished at 104, struggling out of the gate with 39 after just four holes. He picked up a par on hole nine to go into the turn at 62. Three more pars and one birdie helped him improve to 42 across the back nine.

Indianapolis Cathedral won the event with 305, edging Noblesville's 305 after a tiebreak situation. Hamilton Southeastern (309) also made the state finals. Sectional champs Richmond finished 13th (344) and Connersville was next at 352. Northeastern was 17th (357).

New Castle's Derek Tabor was regional champ, firing a fantastic six-under 66. Cathedral's Ryan Ford had 68. HSE's Cole Starnes was even par at 72 while Will Perkins of Noblesville shot 73. At 74 were Bishop Chatard's William Pruitt, Fishers' Connor McMillan and Noblesville's Drew Decker. Pruitt and McMillan advanced as individuals, as did Riley Batton of Delta and Dillon Bergum of NC (both had 75).

Ryder Cate led Richmond with 81; Sam Reising shot 84, Alex Brown 85, Jackson Cornett 94 and Carson Lafuse 95. Alex Beatty led NE with 83 and Dylan Goble carded 87; Hayden Chalfant had 89, Ashton Martin 98 and Jonathan Michaels 103. For the Spartans, Cooper Kinney finished at 81, Will Chalker at 84, Conner Graves at 91, Gage Brown at 96 and Dylan Thomas 106.

Winchester's Paul Welch was at 100, Tri's Gracen Huffman at 82 and Centerville's Brady Moore at 81.
The state finals were Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
