The Union County Patriots lost, 43-36, on the road at North Decatur last week.

The Pats’ fast start out-scored the Chargers, 13-7 in the first quarter and continued to hold onto a 21-18 edge at halftime.

“We played really hard tonight,” UC coach Alex McCool said. “But at times we weren’t screening well enough.

The Chargers overcame the slow start with good defense.

“You don’t see a lot of teams that switch every screen which is what they do, and they did a good job of guarding our shooters,” McCool said.

The Chargers out-scored UC, 9-4, in the third period to take a 27-25 lead into the final eight minutes.

ND came back with 16 points in the fourth period to the Pats’ 11 that included two field goals and 8-of-17 at the free throw line.

North Decatur was led by seniors Garrett Wood with 13 points and Brandon Borgman with 12.

UC was led by sophomore Keaghan Coyle and junior Jaden Bias, who had eight points each.
