Union County pulled out a dramatic come-from-behind TEC win in the bottom of the seventh inning over visiting Cambridge City Lincoln last week at Bill Webb Field.

“It was like we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on that one,” UC coach Jordan Ashbrook said. “Luckily we made enough plays and were able to refocus in the bottom of the seventh.”

Union County led 6-2 at the end of six innings. The Eagles scored 3 runs on a triple, a pair of doubles and fielding errors to go ahead, 7-6.

In the bottom of the seventh, UC led off with back-to-back singles and a fielding error loaded the bases. Then with one out, senior John Ridenour stepped to the plate. Ridenour was UC’s starting pitcher, allowing four runs on five hits over five innings and three strikeouts.

Ridenour, the batter, was 2-for-3, including a home run in the second inning and was walked in the seventh.

“I went out to talk to John   two different times,” Ashbrook said. “You can either work through it or you can make a different play to end the game. Luckily he turned it around, he just had a different mind set.”

Designated player Eric Burdine was up next with the bases full. The UC junior hit a single on the second pitch to score Richards and Boone. Presto! The Patriots celebrated the Tri-Eastern Conference 8-7 win over the Lincoln Golden Eagles.

Union County improved to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the Tri Eastern Conference.

Lincoln dropped to 2-9 and 0-5.
