The Brookville Town Council, led by Curtis Ward, met on Tuesday, May 10, to discuss new developments for the town. These included new pickleball courts, the street department going to auction, and new police cars. Grant Reeves, town attorney, submitted a Draft Procedural of Rules for review.

Those attending all agreed to the Brookville Pickleball Group redeveloping INDOT property on 9th and Mill streets. Pending a more refined plan, this would result in five pickleball courts.

A hold has been placed on the Brookville American Legion's request to host fireworks June 25. This is due to missing insurance and an event plan and will be visited again at a later date.

The council moved on to state that a fund was created for the Preserving of Main Street Grant ($2M), and they have appropriated $116K for professional services needed for the planning phase and administrative costs.

Moving forward, the council stated that Franklin County Youth Football had their annual gaming license letter approved for weekly drawings in 2023. The Schilling Center was used on May 15 at no cost for a recruiting event as approved by Conservation Officer Wooley.

A salary ordinance amendment was signed for salary increases for the street department supervisor and mechanic. This was previously discussed at an earlier meeting, and the council moved forward to discuss the auction. The old street department property, located on 4th and High Streets, will be auctioned off by the council. Two appraisals have come in at $70K and $100K. The council also plans to get appraisals for the police department located on 634 Main Street, and auction it as well.

New police cars, newly refurbished, will hit the road this week. A submitted policy covering take home cars will be discussed further at the next meeting.

Other light news included Charles Campbell, councilman,  requesting twenty people from the Watch Center get a break on pool passes. However, more information is required and will be discussed at a later date. Police Chief Mitchum will be overseeing a new parking layout for the monthly car show. Progress Street and behind the Farmer's Market will hold some available places now.
