Lady Patriots show early season improvement

“We didn’t play very well at Richmond yesterday,” UC Girls Golf Ryleigh Waltz-Kennedy said. “But turned it around and had  a better day today. I’m pleased.”

UC opened the girls golf season with a pair of tournaments last week – a Monday tournament at Richmond and their own Union County Girls Golf Invitational the following day.

Playing in a 3-way meet with Lincoln and Tri High on Friday, Union County’s 175 beat Lincoln’s 222 and Tri’s incomplete team of two.

Peityn Gillman was medalist with a one-over par 38. Lincoln’s Addison Pitcock led the Golden Eagles with 55.

This week at Monroe Central the Lady Patriots continued to roll with a 187, to MC’s 255. That puts Union County with an undefeated 3-0 record and 2-0 in the Tri Eastern Conference.

With a senior (Madysson McClure) and a junior (Peityn Gillman) to provide leadership for the remaining underclassmen.

And Kennedy is pleased at how they all work together to improve their game. Nora Robinson is a sophomore who brings a lot to the table, Kennedy said. “She has a solid swing and hits the ball very solid, is very coachable and eager to listen and learn.

“Aubrey (Beck) and Mel (Goecke) are freshmen who have a lot of potential. They just need to learn some course management, and how to keep big numbers off their scorecards.”

“I have two new girls as well,” Kennedy said. A freshman (Kamora Klingman) and junior (Gretchen Schlichter)                who are new to the game and have never played before.” Sounds like they are working to carry Union County’s girls golf program well into the future.

Union County hosts East  Central on Thursday, Aug. 10, for a non-conference dual meet. 

The Lady Pats participate in the Lapel Invitational Saturday morning.
