Roger A. Downard

Roger A. Downard, age 73, of Metamora  passed peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.

Born December 17, 1950 in Batesville, he was one of 11 children born to the late Thomas Downard Jr and Nancy Carol (Watterson) Downard.  On December 29, 1989 he and the former Ruth Ann Glassco were united in marriage and she survives.

Roger was retired, having worked for much of his life as International Boilermaker.  In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, boating, playing cards, working in his vegetable and flower gardens, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge #11 F. & A.M. of Brookville, the Scottish Rite, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1129 of Brookville, as well as the Sons of the American Legion Bernard Hurst Post #77 of Brookville.

Besides Ruth Ann, his loving wife of over 34 years, survivors include two daughters, Melissa Wildman of West Fork, Arkansas, and Cindy Scott of Amelia, Ohio; three step-children, Matthew Hauke of Brooksville, Kentucky, Aaron Hauke of Amelia, Ohio and Jason Hauke of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Cook of Brookville; two brothers, Bruce Downard of Brookville and Michael Downard of Hamilton, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Higgins; a grandson, Isaac Hauke; sisters, Mary Jane Downard, Joyce Jordan, Ruby Erjavec; four brothers, Tim Downard, Donnie Downard, Phillip Downard, David Downard.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Rock Catholic Church, 17440 St. Mary’s Road, Batesville, Indiana 47006 on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 11:00 a.m..
