Scott Joseph May, age 64, passed peacefully at his home in Brookville surrounded by his loving family on Saturday evening February 1, 2025.

Born January 4, 1961 in Detroit, Scott led a life of honor and service.  He served in the United States Army for 20 years as a criminal investigator and polygraph examiner, with distinguished tours in Bosnia, the Sinai Peninsula, and Operation Desert Storm.

Scott married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Dulaney on December 14, 1985.  Together they built a life centered on family and community; owning and operating the Mounds Restaurant in Brookville from 1999 until 2007.  Scott continued his dedication to public service retiring from the U.S. Department of Labor as a criminal investigator.

He was deeply committed to his community, coaching numerous youth sports teams, taking an active role in his children’s activities.  He also served as Deputy Coroner of Franklin County for several years.  His kindness and dedication touched countless lives.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Brookville; the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2014 of Brookville, as well as the Disabled American Veterans.

Above all Scott cherished his family.  Survivors include his devoted wife of nearly 40 years, Shirley; their three beloved children, Scott Joseph May II, Jacob Robert May, and Sarah Elizabeth May all of Brookville; his brother, John (Leticia) May of New Boston, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin D. May Sr. and Rosellen May; and his brother, Frank D. May Jr.

Family and friends may visit from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at First Baptist Church, 530 Market Street, Brookville.

Rev. Rick Melugin will officiate the funeral service on Friday, February 7, 2025, 12:00 noon, at the church, where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.  Burial with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research, supporting research and advancements in Alzheimer’s treatments for veterans.
