In celebration of Brookville Lake’s 50th anniversary this week, we take a moment to reflect on the updated Brookville Lake Master Plan from March 1979. This pivotal document laid out ambitious estimates and strategic plans for the lake, envisioning its far-reaching impact on the surrounding communities. 

One of the remarkable insights from the master plan was the projected population growth in several counties situated up to 60 miles away from Brookville Lake. Below is a detailed table that compares the estimated population figures from 1977 to those projected for the near future, alongside the current statistics, for an insightful perspective.

The estimated annual visitation outlined in the updated plan from 1979 reflects an ambitious vision for growth over nearly six decades. This projection illustrates a steady increase in the number of visitors, showcasing the potential for expansion and engagement.

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, there were over one million visitors in 2023, down roughly one million from projected visitors.
