After moving to Liberty, Mary Frances and her husband lived and worked for 17 years on their dairy farm north of Liberty, known as Greenmeadow Farms, Inc., raising their two children, Cathy and Tom.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Liberty where she served as an Elder and was also an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Criterion Club. Mary Frances enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Liberty Country Club. She loved playing bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs, playing through 2020.
She and Bob enjoyed traveling throughout the country and internationally with friends and spending time in Florida with many of them.
Mary Frances' great-grandfather, Henry Shriner, was one of the original founders of the Union County National Bank in 1872. After graduating from Indiana University, she returned to Liberty where she worked in the bank for several years and remained closely associated with the bank, as did her husband Robert, as an employee and director. Always involved in the Union County/Liberty community, Mary Frances and her husband Robert established the Robert and Mary F. Caldwell Family Fund at the Union County Foundation. In 1997 they were named life members as they established a perpetual fund to help serve the needs of the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepmother Ruby Brandenburg Orr, her sister and brother-in-law, Martha Ann and Darrell Brandenburg and a grandson, Jonathan Thomas Caldwell.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert; daughter Cathy of Summerville, S.C.; son Tom (Melanie) of Liberty; grandsons Casey (Ann) of San Diego, and Patrick (fianceé Lauren) of West Lafayette, and great-grandson Jack Thomas Caldwell of San Diego.
A memorial commemorating Mary Frances' life and a private graveside service will be held at a future date. Donations can be made to either the Union County Foundation in the name of the Caldwell Family Fund or to the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty. Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
