Edward “Ed” L. Strait, age 74, passed away on August 16, 2022, at St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel.  He was born in Richmond on February 9, 1948, one of five children of the late Harry and Helen Strothman Strait.

Ed served his country in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1968 where he served in Vietnam and attained the rank of Gunners Mate 3rd Class. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 571 and Amvets # IN-38; he also was a member of the American Legion.

He retired from Roots Blower as a Technical Representative after several years.  Throughout his career, he would travel the world troubleshooting and repairing the blowers.  After retirement, you could find him relaxing by riding his Harley, playing golf, or playing cards.  Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

His memories will be loved and cherished by his sons, Shannon Strait and Brandon “Dog” (Sarah) Strait of Liberty; his daughter Samantha Bleike of Texas; brother Morris (Linda) Strait of Centerville and sister, Ruth Ann (Larry) Saxon of Liberty.  He will be thought of often by his grandchildren, David (Alexus) Strait, Brennen Strait, Landon Strait, Mason Strait, Michael Shannon Bleike, and Hannah Bleike; four great-grandchildren; his companion of the past nine years, Lola Barnes; former daughter-in-law, Dianne Williamson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald Strait and Phillip Strait; and former wife, Shirley Bauer Strait.

Friends and family  gathered at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N. Main, Liberty on Friday August 19, 2022.  Honoring Ed's wishes, cremation was chosen.
