The UCHS After Prom fundraiser, Chuck-A-Duck, is officially over. Through January and February, the event was featured at five home basketball games and raised around $800 for the After Prom purse.

They sold as one buck for a duck, or six ducks for five bucks; spectators chucked their ducks, then the lucky chucks won a few bucks. They hurled the toys toward an X at center court or Xs on both free throw lines. After 100-plus ducks were thrown from the bleachers, a team of judges (parent / After Prom volunteers) determined which ones were closest to the marks. The mark at center court won $25; the free throw line marks won $10.

"We had big push brooms and volunteers ready to sweep all the ducks off the floor, after the winners had been determined. Before we could even get out there, so many kids came out of the stands and cleaned them up, putting them back in the tubs! We loved the community effort from so many of our smallest UC fans!" described Amy Fields, UCHS teacher and After Prom junior parent.

Chuck-A-Duck was sponsored by the UCHS After Prom junior parents. The following people served as volunteers at the games: Randi Hollen, Amy Fields, Jennifer McCashland, Amanda Elleman, Monica Greene, Sue Wooley, Jess Jones and Laura Powers. The toy ducks were lent to the school by the Union County Development Corporation.

During February, the After Prom Committee launched a donation campaign with local businesses across the county. Mrs. Fields reported great results, saying, "As always, UC business owners are stepping up and supporting After Prom." She noted that the committee had earned over $2,500 through fundraising /donations with more still to come.
