October 25, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
Whitewater Canal State Historic Site Manager Jay Dishman updated community members on Oct. 19 regarding replacing the old waterwheel behind the Grist Mill at the Whitewater Canal State Historic Site.
"Our construction and restoration team has been working on building the new waterwheel off-site, with plans to install it sometime in the Spring of 2023," shared Dishman. "We will begin removing the old waterwheel this week to start preparing the site for the new wheel. The existing wheel is more than 30 years old and is not the original waterwheel for the canal. We will update you on installation in the spring."
The new wheel will be 14 feet in diameter and made of cypress.
