City projects discussed at BOW meeting

The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Rushville met on Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m. Present was Mayor Mike Pavey, Gary Cameron, Brad Berkemeier, Phil King, Maria Bridges and city attorney Julie Newhouse.

DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS: 

Park 

•The park department is seeking a part-time employee to replace an employee who is no longer working for the department. 

•The pool has closed for the season. The splash pad will remain open until Labor Day weekend. 

•In September, the park department will host a nature school and a tree identifying class. 

Fire 

•Chief Justice publicly thanked the Tractor Cab Company for donating their time and repairing their flag. 

 •The department has three firefighter EMTs scheduled to take the advanced EMT classes. 

Police 

•Chief Tucker reported two officers attended advanced traffic class earning the certification in the federal traffic program. 

•The RPD family has grown as Officer Jordan Hoeing and his wife had their first baby, and Officer Joe Procell, and his wife had their fourth child.          

•The K9 golf outing is Aug. 19. Participants and or sponsors are still being accepted. 

Utility 

•Superintendent Shook reported the change over from chlorine gas to bleach for the disinfectant at the water plant has been completed.

•The Diamond Pet Food project continues to progress with the water tower and sewer pipe installation. In a couple of weeks, sandblasting and painting will begin.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 

•The Street Parking and Sexton project has been delayed and will begin in mid-August.

•The Willow Street Mill & Resurface is expected to begin at the end of August or the beginning of September.

NEW BUSINESS: 

Animal Control 

The board accepted Malorie Poe's resignation and approved opening the hiring process for a full-time employee.

Fire/Rescue 

Chief Justice reported Mariah Moore passed her testing. He is looking at a possible start date of Aug. 12.   

At the new fire station, the refrigerator and range have been put in, and the kitchen cabinets are being installed. 

General 

The bid opening for the grain elevator demolition Schedule is scheduled for Aug. 24. 

There was no further business. The meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
