City department heads update bow at meeting

The City of Rushville's Board of Public Works and Safety met on July 3 at 5:30 p.m. Present were Mayor Mike Pavey, Gary Cameron, Brad Berkemeier, Phil King, Maria Bridges and city attorney Julie Newhouse.

DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:  

Rushville Police Department (RPD) Chief Tucker said on Aug. 19, the RPD and the Rush County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) will hold their annual K9 Golf Outing at Willowbrook Golf Course in Connersville. Proceeds will be split 50/50. Player sponsors are still being saught. 

Animal Shelter director Hanna reported that the shelter had purchased an engraving machine and will offer free microchipping. The department was planning to trap cats in the area of 7th St. and Arthur, and 54 cats were scheduled to be spayed/neutered. She also reported the shelter will be closed on July 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to help with the summer camp program.

Project updates included:

•The Hunt Road Culvert project is complete.

•Water line installation on Willow Street is complete.

• The 15th Street and Sexton parking project is underway and will last through September.  

NEW BUSINESS: 

Public Works 

Director Chuck Jenkins submitted his letter of resignation effective July 28. Cameron made a motion to accept the resignation of Jenkins and to allow the mayor to start the hiring process. Berkemeier seconded the motion. Motion carried. 

Gina Jenkins submitted her letter of resignation effective Sept. 29. Berkemeier moved to accept Jenkins' resignation and start the hiring process. Cameron seconded the motion. Motion carried.  

PUBLIC SAFETY 

Fire/Rescue  

The Board of Works was scheduled to hold interviews on July 5. Chief Justice asked permission to immediately send the selected applicant for his physical to save two weeks. Berkemeier made a motion to approve the conditional offer of employment and to go ahead and proceed with the physical to save time. King seconded the motion. Motion carried.  

Chief Justice gave an update on the addition to the fire department. At the time of the meeting, the second coat of paint was being completed. The flooring was installed. The gutters, downspouts and baby box have also been installed.  

Police Department  

Chief Tucker reported three candidates were invited to take the agility testing. Two candidates showed, and one passed. This candidate will spend the entire day of July 6 with RPD.
